Speech title: Network Slicing for 5G and Beyond

Network slicing allows network providers to lease bundles of computing, storage, and network resources to service providers, active within commercial domains often termed as verticals. This opens up a unique opportunity for services to get deeply integrated into the network infrastructure, realizing innovative applications with stringent performance and/or latency requirements. In this respect, I will talk about key challenges for network slicing and will present recent architectures for network slicing orchestration. Furthermore, I will stress on the need for cross-slice communication, as means for cross-service interactions in the case of service co-location. In this context, I will present the MESON project architecture for cross-slice communication in a secure and controlled manner.

Panagiotis Papadimitriou is an Assistant Professor at the Applied Informatics department of University of Macedonia in Greece and head of the NetCloud research group. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor of Future Internet at the Institute of Communications Technology in Leibniz University Hannover, and a member of L3S Research Center in Hannover, Germany. His research interests and activities span (next-generation) Internet architectures, Network Function Virtualization (NFV), network slicing, Software-Defined Networks (SDN), and edge computing. Panagiotis has been a PI in various EU- and nationally-funded projects on these topics. He is currently a Senior Member of IEEE.
